Where jungle whispers meet morning yoga, and strangers become family

Experience the Homestay Experience in Chitwan

When you book a hotel, you purchase a room. When you choose a homestay, you receive an invitation, into a family's daily rhythm, their traditions, their stories, and their hearts. At AtmaGyan Wild Yoga in Chitwan, this isn't just marketing language. It's the essence of who we are.

Situated near the Chitwan National Park, our family-run Yoga retreat offers something increasingly rare in our modern world: genuine connection. Here, you won't wake to alarm clocks or breakfast buffets. Instead, you'll rise to birdsong, share morning tea with our family, and begin your day with yoga as the jungle awakens around you.

This is what homestay with Yoga truly means, not a transaction, but a transformation. Not a stay, but a homecoming.

Chitwan, where Nature Still Remains

Chitwan is not Kathmandu. It's not Pokhara. It's the wild heart of Nepal, a place where one-horned rhinoceros lumber through tall grasslands, where Bengal tigers leave paw prints in morning mist, and where the Rapti River flows with stories older than time.

Designated as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, Chitwan National Park protects one of Asia's finest remaining examples of riverine grassland and subtropical jungle. But beyond the conservation lies something more profound: a living, breathing ecosystem where humans and wildlife have learned to coexist.

For generations, indigenous Tharu people have called this jungle home. Our family, too, has deep roots here. We grew up listening to the jungle's language: the warning call of the spotted deer, the trumpeting of wild elephants, the rustle that might be a python or might be the wind. This knowledge, passed down through our parents and grandparents, is what we share with you.

Yoga in Nature

Most yoga classes take place in air-conditioned studios, often accompanied by music and decorative posters. That's fine, yoga works anywhere. But there's something special about practicing yoga outside in nature, where it began.

Morning Yoga Sessions

Your day starts early, before it gets hot. When the sun comes up through the trees, you'll walk to our outdoor yoga area. It's surrounded by gardens and jungle. The mat is under your feet, the earth is below, and the sky is above. This is your studio.

Our morning classes (75-90 minutes) include:

  • Nature Walk to wake up your body and mind
  • Breathing exercises to build your energy
  • Sun salutations are done as the sun actually rises
  • Standing poses to build strength
  • Balance poses to connect you with the ground

You might hear peacocks calling, monkeys in the trees, or elephants in the distance. This isn't recorded music, it's real jungle sounds that yogis have heard for thousands of years.

Evening Yoga and Meditation

After exploring the jungle all day, your body needs rest. Our evening classes (60-75 minutes) give you that:

  • Gentle poses to relax after your adventures
  • Meditation as the sun sets
  • Yoga Nidra (deep relaxation)
  • Talks about yoga philosophy

When the sun sets, the jungle changes from day to night. This is a magical time. Animals come out, the air cools down, and everything becomes peaceful. This is when yoga feels like more than just exercise.

Yoga for Everyone

It doesn't matter if you're new to yoga or very experienced. Our teachers work with you at your level. We believe yoga is for every body type and age.

You'll get:

  • Help with your poses
  • Changes to poses if you're injured
  • Tips for practicing at home
  • Private lessons if you want them
  • Help with meditation

Wildlife Adventures

Yoga helps your inner peace. The jungle wakes up your senses. Together, they give you a complete experience.

Jeep Safari

Our jungle safaris aren't rushed. Expert guides lead you, many of whom grew up in these forests. Each trip teaches you about nature, animals, and how the jungle works.

Driving through the park, you might see:

  • One-horned rhinos: These huge animals eat grass and don't mind people watching
  • Sloth bears: Furry and cute, often eating termites
  • Spotted deer and wild pigs: Common jungle animals
  • Crocodiles: Two types, gharials and marsh muggers
  • Bengal tigers: Rare but possible, you'll see their footprints more than the actual tigers

Canoe Ride

It's peaceful to float down the Rapti River in a traditional canoe. No motor noise, no rushing, just the paddle and the river's flow.

From the water, you see:

  • Crocodiles lying on muddy banks
  • Kingfisher birds catching fish
  • Water buffalo staying cool
  • The jungle reflected in the water
  • Animals drinking water

Walking Safari

This isn't for everyone, that's what makes it special. Walking where tigers, rhinos, and bears live takes trained guides and careful attention.

You'll learn to:

  • Read animal tracks
  • Know bird calls
  • Find medicinal plants
  • Move quietly through the jungle
  • Understand how animals hunt

It's both exciting and humbling, a reminder that humans aren't always in charge.

Bird Watching

If you love birds, Chitwan is amazing. The park has over 500 bird species. Early morning walks show you:

  • Paradise flycatchers with long tails
  • Bengal floricans (very rare)
  • Storks and herons
  • Many kingfisher types
  • Colorful bee-eaters
  • Eagles, owls, and vultures

Even if you've never watched birds before, our guides make it fun.

Homestay Life

What happens between yoga and safaris? This is where the real magic happens in the relaxed moments of homestay life.

Family Meals

Every meal is cooked by our family. We use vegetables from our garden, local rice, and recipes from our grandparents. You'll eat what we eat, real Nepali food, not tourist food.

You'll have:

  • Dal Bhat: Nepal's favorite meal, lentil soup, rice, vegetable curry, and pickles
  • Fresh curries: Made with seasonal vegetables
  • Homemade bread: Chapati or roti
  • Farm-fresh food: Picked the same day
  • Tharu dishes: Traditional local food

More than just eating, meals are when we talk. Our family will ask about your life and share jungle stories. The table brings different worlds together.

Cultural Learning

Stay with us a while, and you might:

  • Learn to cook dal bhat
  • Help pick vegetables
  • Learn traditional farming
  • Hear jungle stories by the fire
  • Learn Nepali words
  • See our daily traditions
  • Understand Tharu culture

This isn't a tourist show. It's real life, shared with kindness.

What We Really Offer

Yes, you'll do yoga. Yes, you'll see amazing animals. Yes, you'll eat good food and sleep in comfortable rooms.

But here's what we really give you:

Time to slow down - In a busy world, we create space for calm.

Connection with nature - Not just for photos, but a real connection that feeds your soul.

Real human connection - Our family wants to know you, not just serve you.

Yoga in daily life - Yoga becomes more than just a class—it's how you see your whole day.

Remember your wild side - Both the jungle's wildness and your own.

Come Visit Us

The jungle doesn't hurry, but everything gets done. Trees don't struggle to grow, but they reach for the light. Rivers don't force their way, but they carve through rock.

At AtmaGyan, you can remember this natural wisdom. Let your practice grow slowly. Let connection happen naturally. Let healing come in its own time.

We can't promise you'll see a tiger (but you might). We can't guarantee enlightenment (but insights happen). We can't promise perfect weather (the jungle decides).

But we can promise this: You'll be welcomed as family. You'll do yoga in nature. You'll see real wilderness. And you'll leave different than when you came, calmer, more present, reconnected to something important you may have forgotten.

The jungle is calling. Your mat is waiting. Our family has chai and smiles ready.

When will you come?
